Current Status

30th July 2007 (Mon)

Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah: Today, Yeam Shin Yau borrowed and returned a book from the ANU library for the first time since he arrived in Australia!

After 16 hours of

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, (there're exactly 16 'z's)
(this photo was taken back in Klang by Mr. Tan Ken Jin)

I finally managed to update my blog =)

To mum and dad, this was how I looked before my hair cut:-

On Tan Xiao's Kawasaki

and after,

A random picture by Niaz (Central Aussie Trip friend). The face reflected the sort of morning I had just before my hair cut
  • was already late for my hair cut appointment at 8.30am and yet
  • I locked myself out from my room for the first time ever, excluding the experience during my birthday
  • have to call the resident on duty to unlock my room (wasted some time there)
  • couldn't find my bike in the bicycle shade. Thought it was stolen but then remembered that I parked it in the Career Centre for some reasons
  • took 5 minutes to walk all the way to the Career Centre to get my bike
  • ended up 15 minutes late in the Salon.
Thank God they still allowed me the free hair cut. Oh, I forgot to explain! There's this salon called John Brennen where we are entitled to receive free hair cut by the trainees by volunteering to become their guinea pigs. Well, I was thinking they couldn't be that bad. Moreover, this was my first time in Salon. Really excited about it cause I know it'll be different from the typical school type of hair cut I use to get back in Malaysia which they always shave the sides.

The side view. Not sure if my new is nice but I'm adapting to it. Don't have to comb my hair after bathing at least =p
(Note to all the slow-eaters: Be prepared to get your pictures taken while you're eating. I've got considerably lots of picture of this kind)

To Dad: This is my Dunlop bike. Accidentally bought a gal's bike as it came in a box and I didn't check the sticker. Haha...

A couple of weeks ago, Ursula Hall had Christmas in July celebration (17th July). A door decoration competition was held in conjunction to that.

My door won!!! Not in the picture was a stocking hang around the door knob. Believe of not, someone actually put a sweet in it! So nice of that person.

Here are some other group pictures:-

My first time taking picture with a Santa! Looked quite fat as I was wearing a jacket inside my green long sleeve t-shirt in my attempt of dressing as an elf. Pretty happy with the outcome.

With the Ursies Bear

Another event was Ting Ting (China) and Dom's (Cambodia) birthday celebration in B&G (26th July)

Ting Ting's on my right while Don is on hers

Finally, there was Mamak Day 2 days ago (28th July), MSO's last cooking event (had Maggi Goreng, Roti Canai, Tandoori Chicken, Dhall, Cendol, and Teh Tarik). Stayed up the whole night to cook which explained the 16-hour sleep (4.30pm on Sat-8.30am on Sun). I was so tired that I dozed off a few times in the middle of my conversation with one of the committee member. Hope my shades covered it up =p

With Ursies during the event

To end this post, I present Don's (Singapore) drawing!!! He was so bored during his lecture that he produced this funny piece of art. Cute, isn't it? Reminds me of my childhood Pendidikan Seni art work.

Post Birthday

30th July 2007 (Mon)

This was the birthday cake Safuraa, Kak Diyana, and Kak Ayu
made for me. Looked so appealing! Thank you so much once again

This was a touching video them singing the birthday song while I was in Central Australia. A big thanks to Safuraa for sending it to me. Linda cut the cake and offered it through the screen =p
Thank you all so much!!! Very very nice video!
(Sitting: Kak Ayu, Linda, Eriziana, Sher Reen)
(Standing: Safuraa, Chean Yeaw, Chia Ling (you look so different!!!), Quanyie, Wan Mit, Yoong Wai, Sherry, Selina)
(Behind the lense: Shuey)

Left: Letter from Monash Right: Letter from Taiping
A pleasant surprise they were =) Nice to see my name written in Yeam Shin Yau instead of Shin Yeam or Shin Yau Yeam (which I find a bit annoying)
Haha..guess from who the letters came from...

Answer:
The Monash one was from Eggy Red
The Taiping one was from Gaik Li

Thanks a lot to both of you!! Early or late, both your cards really made my day =)

Nice! Nice!

First Ever Global Election

15th July 2007 (Sun)

I felt so outdated. Didn't even know about the new 7 Wonders of the World until yesterday.

Anyway, the new list was announced in an Official Declaration ceremony on 07/07/07 in Lisbon, Portugal which turned out to be a pretty big even actually. Stars like J. Lo and Christiano Ronaldo were present as well.

The means of voting includes worldwide online, SMS and telephone voting. And for this reason, I believe, they claimed this process to be the first global election which sounds cool to me. But then I kept thinking, "Does it take that long for this world to have its first global election?" Aha, it struck me that the World Idol voting process was pretty global as well. Wasn't that the suppose to be the first? Maybe it didn't cover all the countries around the world.

Back to the list, behold.... the New 7 Wonders of the World:-

The Taj Mahal, India

The Roman Colosseum, Italy

Chichén Itzá, Mexico

Machu Picchu, Peru

Christ Redeemer, Brazil

Petra, Jordan

The Great Wall, China

Some interesting facts to end this entry with

"7 Wonders were chosen because the original list of Ancient Wonders, drawn up more than 2,000 years ago, contained 7 and because 7 has been shown time and time again to be the number of things that the average person can remember. "

"The Pyramids of Giza also were honored by the New7Wonders project as the only remaining of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World."

Back from the Centre

7th July 2007 (Sat)

It was a great trip overall though it could've been better. So nice to have my bed back that I slept for 11 hours this morning.

Wanna thank those who wished me happy birthday on the first day of the trip. Was in the bus almost for the whole day (thanks to the 36-hour journey). A few phone calls from INTEC friends made my day. Had a short conversation with Hangxin before Nooi Hoay called, followed by Chean Yeaw's call during dinner. Haha, still remember he passed the phone to Wan Mit, Quanyie, Yoong Wai, and Selina. And of course sms-es from familes and friends.

My sincere apology to Safuraa and Kak Ayu for not being able to enjoy the cake she made specially for my birthday. The strawberry cake certainly looked appetising. Really appreciate your effort, Adik =)

Gonna upload more pictures from my trip tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'll end this post with a picture and a funny quote of my new found friend, Tan Xiao from China.

"One of the two real reasons God created a gap in your legs is that you can ride a bike!"

I don't know about you but I find it pretty hillarious =)

This picture was taken at a salt lake called Lake Hart. The wind there is so strong that you can literally see the water being blown to another direction on the sand. Oh, try locating me in the picture =p You'll soon realise it's not a difficult task at all =)
