A Hiccup After A Joy

20th Dec 2006 (Wed)

98.7 – a downward sequence of three numbers. This is a result that satisfies me. It made my mum happy and she hugged me so tightly that I couldn’t remember when the last time she did that was. Dad was in a meeting so I couldn’t call him. I just sent him an sms which I am sure, still made him happy. He then forwarded the news to my sis. My mum just taught my dad how to forward an sms and he has been applying that skill many times since then =) I am super happy that I made my family proud.

I thank God for His blessings.

I thank my family for their love and care.

I thank my lecturers for their guidance.

I thank my friends for being there for me.

Now, the problem begins when we start comparing scores. I see so many 999999999999999999999999999 in other people’s results; Too many to the extent that my eyes starting to get a bit ngan fa (blur blur). Haha.. Congrats to those who passed with flying colours and not forgetting those who didn’t score all the 9999999999999999999999999999 but still met their university requirements. For those who didn’t make it, locals universities are not that bad after all. Moreover, everything happens for a reason.

I am currently still unsure of which university I am going to. Initially, Macquarie was my first choice but Bank Negara wants me to enrol into ANU because of its more favourable ranking. Today, I met up with Wei Liang and Choon Wei. For those who don’t know who they are, they are from AUSMAT 16, currently taking Economics in ANU and Medic in Auckland respectively. They came down to Taiping today for a one-day trip and kindly asked me out. Wei Liang told me many advantages of ANU and persuaded me to go there, which soon made me realised that choosing ANU is not that bad after all.

Hence, I feel alright even though I’m being sent to ANU. Another plus point, Sze Huey is going there as well!!! Now, the problem is my cousin’s TER didn’t meet ANU’s requirement. Interested in ANU he is but he missed the TER by 0.07. I wonder if we can appeal. This is so unfortunate =(

I’ve decided. I’m going to email ANU and asked about this. If everything goes my way, Sze Huey, my cousin and I will be heading to ANU. Gambateh!!!

Many congratulations to you and your blog's AUSMATian readers.

Wow... I knew that AUSMATians were smart and multi-talented, now I know that AUSMATians are also perfectionists.

Can you name examples of top scorers? ACCH? TRX?

hye SY..
i don't know why i'm saying this..but i think you should know what your readers think about you sometimes..
you're nice..but your blog sounds a liltle bit annoying..
my results are slightly better than yours..nearly included in the 999999999999 group..geezz..why do you have to say that..9999999999? don't know how many 9s there..so what if people scored 999999999? yes, of course it is something that should be proud of, but you make it sound as if we dont deserve it..and if i were to be one of those who did not score 90 something and above..after reading your blog, i would have felt insulted..you say sorry to them but actually you make them feel so pathetic..
hope you change your style of writting..because in some ways that you do not know..you're hurting the feelings of your ausmat friends-your friends who did not get 90 above or 999999999999999..both .
more sad to the people who did even get the chance to fly..
Maybe you didn't mean it, but at least think before you write.
This is my first time reading your blog, i do not know how your other blog entries have been. hope it's not provoking like this one.

To Danial,
Thanks =) He's sponsored by FaMa. yeah, hopefully, he will be accepted.

To Kedekut,
Thanks, Eugene =) Yup, ACCH is one of the top scorers. Quanyie also, if you know who she is. Oh, who is TRX btw?

To Bubbles,
Thanks. Congrats to u too =)

To Quanyie,
Hey, thanks. Your result is super good leh. Congrats to u too =) Haha..not to worry. u all can still keep in touch =)

To Anonymous,
Wow, i certainly didn't see this coming. Nevertheless, I welcome constructive comments regarding my blog and I consider yours constructive.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I certainly respect yours. I am sorry for hurting you and making any AUSMATians feel bad in any possible way. It is unintentionally done.

The first thing I thought of doing upon reading your comment is to delete the paragraph which caused all these but then I decided not to cause I have no intention of insulting anyone while typing this particular entry. No doubt, there might be people who might interpret that paragraph the way you do. But that paragraph stays.

I thank you for your comment and will certainly bare in mind what you have said before post an entry in the future. Hope you will continue reading and commenting my entries. It helps me to learn from my mistakes and improve.

Thank you again. No hard feelings =)

i setuju dgn p'dpt anonymous. i pelajar intec, tak dapat ter 85%. tak blh dinafikan yeam di kolej memang terkenal sangat dgn caranya yg terlalu suka membantu orang lain.
tapi cara u tulis blog ini, i rasa memang ada yg akan terasa.

"Congrats to those who passed with flying colours and not forgetting those who didn’t score all the 9999999999999999999999999999 but still met their university requirements. For those who didn’t make it, locals universities are not that bad after all. Moreover, everything happens for a reason."

cara u tulis ni macam berismpati sgt dgn kita org yg tak dpt ter yg dtetapkan. yg tak sehebat u org. skrg nak advice kita ni masuk uni tempatan? tone u cuba nak memberi kita kekuatan supaya tak gif up ke semua, macam lah kita akan sedih nak bunuh diri sbab tak dpt ter.

tak payah lah nak "console" kita dan memberi nasihat motivasi, tak tanya pun.

haraplah blog yg seterusnya tak macam ini.

dan tak payahlah nak tulis 999999999999999 tu, tak blh ke refer saja kepada cut off point.

Don't change if you think you didn't do anything wrong. This is who you are. Different people interpret it differently.

I don't see there's anything wrong with that. People who think this entry as negative, well sorry to them. This is a free world. You don't have to live to their rules. You have your own thinking, your own say.

This is YOUR PERSONAL blog. This blog doesn't represent public view. No point hiding your feelings. If yes, what's the point of having a blog?

Putting the 9999999999 - I take it as a joke. Why? I don't know why, but I find it funny. This shows there are many many many more who did better than you; you admit it and you don't feel disappointed cos there are others who did better than you.

To those who didn't do that well, nothing to complain. You can blame others, blame yourself for not studying hard, blame whoever that you are not that smart - but don't you realise that you have other good qualities that other people don't have?? (though I don't know you guys personally, but I always believe everyone has something that other people don't have). You may not be as good as those scoring 90 and above. But do you realise there are others who did worst than you? What about other people who didn't even get a scholarship? You think they are happy and satisfied? Always look at things at a different perspective. Life is not a bed of roses.

I'm NOT as lucky and as smart as you guys - getting scholarship and in a high chance of going overseas. So, should I blame those who get instead? It will be a never ending-blaming-each-other.

Be thankful with what you have and what you have been given. Try not to compare with others (I know this is difficult. I myself always do comparison with my fellow classmates but I don't make a BIG deal out of it, cos I know not everyone can get good grade. Just blame my luck and my laziness :P).

Chinese always say "Ren bi ren qi si ren" (Human compare with human, will make you frustrated till death - Haha, sounds very ter-cacat) :P

Congratulations Shin Yau!! I'm so so proud of you!! See see? Knew you could do it =)
Choose your uni wisely, the decision has to come from you.. cuz you are the one who will be spending another 4 yrs or so there.. Slowly take your time and I'm sure the answer will come to you...
I found the feedback on your post rather interesting, never seen anything like it on your blog. I agree with your sister, its your personal blog and you are entitled to voice your opinions in your own style of writing. Come on, its not like pple don't KNOW you well enough to see that you don't write to insult, either intentionally or not. As my point, those who wrote those comments clearly aren't pple you r familiar with.. so either just take them as constructive criticism or don't take them at all...
Congrats again for your good results!! Yeam gets to fly.. yay!!

To Alia,
Thank you, Alia. Congrats to u for making it as well =)

To Anonymous,
Wow, another boom.I'm shivering right now. I tend to be afraid when people boom me.

I will be like, "ou ou, what trouble have I got myself into?" Anyway, the most important thing is that I learn from this.

Okay, back to the rebuttal, I never meant to advise those who didn't make the cut to enroll in local universities. As far as I know, those who didn't make the cut will be sent to local universities isn't it? That was the reason I mentioned that local universities are not that bad after all.

Furthermore, what is wrong with giving sincere encouragement even though i wasn't asked to, as long as the encouragement comes from my heart.

Also, 'everything happens for a reason' does not meant to be sarcastic. It is to encourage those who didn't make it, to think positively. I believe there is always something good behind all the bad happenings.

'9999999999999999' was meant to be a joke since I saw a lot of nines in my sms-es. The phrases 'ngan fa' and 'hahaha' indicated that. That was why I didn't use 'cut off point' instead.

Thanks for your comment =) No hard feelings.

To Adik,
Yeah, never thought that this post and lead to such unwanted situation. It's not a nice feeling at all.

To Amanda,
Thanks Amanda. But it's not fixed yet for me and my cousin. Hopefully i'll be able to work it out.

oh it's her ic...aren't there other scholars going to UWA?

All the best to you too and keep in touch =)

To Sis,
Thanks for your super long encouragement, sis!

Haha..yes, the translation does sound a bit weird but I hope they get the message.

Yes, this is my blog and I'm free to have a say. Unavoidably, after what has happened today, I hav a phobia. Scared liau..I'll be speak my mind to a certain extent next time. This skill will help me in the future cause I'm sure my words will be misinterpreted by people sometimes.
At least I'm facing this now and learning how to handle it. If not i will shiver even more next time. Very geli one..

Well, they say things like that do happen when you least expect them to.

Thank you so much sis!!!Really appreciate this =)

Hi Poh Lynn, Thank u so much =)
Yes, yes, I am happy to fly as well and hope i'll make a good choice.

I agree. This has never happened in my blog. They might know me but still, they have their own way of thinking and are just being honest.
I respect that and will certainly take their comments as constructive criticism. No one is perfect and I can never satisfy everyone. What I can do is to learn from this.

Thanks again, Poh Lynn =)
