Look Who's Volunteering

I'm one step nearer towards realising my long term goal =)

This is Susan Sullivan, Director of Mission. She speaks like Julia Andrews. Wonder if she could sing like her...

If you think:

1. hospital volunteers mainly consists of young adults;
2. hospital patients' nutrient intake improves after staying in hospital (cause of proper meals);

think again!

They were the last group of people whom I thought would volunteer but guess what, they make up the 85% of the volunteers in today's orientation, me being the only teenager.

The dietitian showed us the typical meal served to patients and how volunteers are not allowed to feed patients directly (hospital policy). Jared, it looks like Ursies meal! =p

She said we can open the lids and make the food readily assessable to patients but the most challenging tasks is of course, persuading stubborn patients to actually eat. One surprising fact revealed by the dietitian: Patients who are lacked of proper nutrient before warded continue to further deteriorate after warded, contrary to popular believes. Well, for one, hospital meals are not the most appetizing ones. And I guess when patients don't eat, their health can only head one way.

Anyway, should go back to my notes =)
